House Staples is an eclectic mix of design collaborations. The client had a specific brief and played an integral role in not only the architecture, but also in the landscaping and bespoke-made furniture specifically produced to compliment the architecture of the house.

The main building is a combination of single and double storey structures knitted together in a U-formation. Living and entertainment spaces form the West wing whilst the North facing bedrooms and the main bedroom on the East wing, complete the “U” and embrace an outdoor deck and rim-flow swimming pool. Leading from the main lounge, large frameless stacking doors open onto a covered piazza and boma. From every angle of the house, the dramatic views of the Assagay valley below are savoured and complimented by the unique and meticulously laid out garden with rolling lawns, intentionally placed obelisk stones and carefully chosen indigenous trees.

This home is one of Baker and Partners prize achievements with a building that not only makes a visual statement but also ticks all the environmental boxes as a low carbon footprint structure with a 100% off-the-grid water and energy usage program.
