The original Kloof Junior Primary school dates back to around the 1950’s with several alterations being made since the original building.
In 2016, Baker and Partners were appointed to re-design the school classrooms and admin block due to special restraints and material deterioration. (Most of the classroom were of a lightweight pre-fabricated construction)
The new design establishes a strong, parallel relationship with the main road which seemingly juxtaposes the imaginary concept of stacked schoolbooks merged with the vertical lines of trees in a forest. The aesthetic concept is grounded on a contemporary look at European and American school design but maintains a South African vernacular. The vertical lines stay in touch with the colour code of the school and more importantly, are there to stimulate the imaginations of both children and adults.
